Why Do Good and Evil Exist?
Good and evil can be found in all aspects of life, it is in
our everyday life and choices. Good and evil is generally determined by the
spirits and their actions. If a spirit is displeased then they will cause
unlucky or evil things to happen to a person. By treating the spirits well and
offering gifts to them, then good luck will be in their favour. It is also
believed that while some spirits are a combination of good and bad, some are
inherently evil.
An example of these common beliefs is in China. It is believed all houses are situated on the ‘earth dragon’. To be on his head is acceptable, but on his head is bad and it is even worse to be on his eye. People will consult the fung sui man (an astrologer specialising in heaven, water, devils and earth) as to where their house is situated to ensure its on his back. There are also many other reasons for ‘bad luck’ for example, it is believed that if demons are getting into your house you will have bad luck. But simply changing the position of one’s door these evil spirits may be deflected along with the bad luck. |
What Happens When We Die?
In animistic religions it is a common belief that one’s
spirit joins with the spiritual world. The positive nature of this life is
influenced how the person acted in their life. Worship and good behaviour is
rewarded as is the case for many religion’s beliefs.
It is believed that after death an ancestor or relative may still be contacted. Animists widely believe in talking to people from the spiritual world and it is a way of staying connected. Worshipping one’s ancestors is a sign of respect and so is commonly done so in Animism. |
